Good Morning Students and Practitioners of the Living Word! Amen! I'd say it would be hard to call yourself a sold out follower of Jesus if you rarely open God's Word. We meet God in the Bible. We learn about Him and His ways. We come to understand His expectations and how obey and honor Him. We pray in power when we use Scripture and remind God of His promises. We still ourselves and the Holy Spirit teaches us and highlights God's Word to us and helps us apply it so we can become doers of it. Amen! A love for God and His Word mark a true follower. Is that you? Be still. Open your Bible and pray and meditate with open ears and hearts and willing to follow feet. Then go share the Good News and His Word as the Holy Spirit helps you apply it to your circumstances or for a friend's . His Word is Living and Active and accomplishes what God sends it out to do through us. Amen!
Two devos below speak about our Bibles and our use. The Bible is God-breathed as He inspired and wrote through the prophets and apostles. His Word is useful for teaching, rebuking and training in righteousness. His Word pronounced and prayed does not come back without achieving what God wants it to. Open, meditate and pray through your Bible and then follow the instructions as we become doers and not just hearers. Where to start? Well I usually start with the Scripture highlighted in our devos. I also read and meditate on what God highlights and also what I am preaching on. This week we will study 2 Peter 2 and 3. Maybe start there in preparation for . Some people play "Bible Bingo" asking God to lead them what to study and then randomly opening their Bibles and start reading. The important thing is to use your Bibles daily/often. You can't be a doer of the Word if you aren't reading it. You can't use it against Satan and his tricks if you don't know it or have it memorized. Open and dwell in His Living Word and then follow the Holy Spirit's lead as you emerge from it and follow Jesus and His ways. Amen! There is great power in His Word! Use it! Amen!
Upper Room: Diving Deeper
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? - Psalm 8:3-4 (NIV)
One morning I went for my usual swim in a clear pool in the ocean. As I was snorkeling, I suddenly found myself among a large school of tiny fish. Soon I noticed they were forming a circle around me. What a joyous experience, being in the center of a perfect circle of hundreds or maybe thousands of little fish! I wanted to share this joy with someone else and surfaced to see if anyone else noticed this amazing sight, but everyone was just having fun floating, enjoying a wonderful morning in the sea.
I couldn’t help thinking that — just as my goggles enable me to see below the surface and experience the beauty of God’s creation — a relationship with Christ allows me to experience the overwhelming joy of life lived at a deeper spiritual level. Many people seem happy swimming on the surface of life, not realizing that they are missing out on the very best life has to offer: a personal relationship with our Creator. When I put on the goggles of faith and dive into the ocean of God’s word, the Holy Spirit reveals a whole new world to me, and I experience the joy of realizing who I am in Christ!
Loving God, give us a desire to seek you. Bring us ever closer to you as we study your word and do your will. Amen.
